Planning to Succeed

Of course you’ve probably heard the phrase “people don’t plan to fail they just fail to plan.” Success in fitness is not exception—you must plan to succeed. I know a lot of people who go to the gym and go through the motions, they get on the treadmill or do their “chest day” but in the end if you don’t plan you will mark time at best.
It’s best to set short term goals and then plan how to get there. Say you want to lose 10 pounds, how do you get there? What does your nutrition, weight lifting and cardio need to look like? How long will it take to get to your goal? Set you daily plan accordingly, for example: you’ll eat 2000 calories a day, do cardio 4-5 times a week and weight lifting 3 times a week for 10 weeks. Break it down again what sorts of food will you eat and at what meals, will you run or jump rope, and what types of weight lifting routines will you do?
Next you need to write this down I like putting my weight lifting on an excel spreadsheet that I print out and record my eating on The Daily Plate.
Once you finish your plan, evaluate your performance. Did you meet your goals? If not what can you do better or change?
Finally you start over again, but wiser this time—set new goals and make your plan to get there.

This is a lifelong process to fight back the ravages of aging—do it one day at a time.
