Warming up

It’s important when lifting weights to warm up, basically you go through the movement you will be doing for a set or two with 50% of the weight you’ll start with for your actual set. You may also want to jog or do some light cardio to get all your muscles going.
Proper warm ups will prepare your muscles for heavier weight to come and prevent you from getting an injury. Second, it’s often important to go through the motion you’ll be doing and think about your form—another way to keep you from getting hurt.
Finally avoid static stretches, these will actually weaken your muscles before weight lifting, instead do these when you are done they will help you relieve soreness for the next day.
