To sleep, perchance to dream!

It was at 2:30 am last night as I held our newborn, coaxing him to sleep that I thought of today's post, the importance of sleep!

Numerous studies have shown the importance of sleep. Sleep improves your mind functions, decreases your chance of heart disease, and can even help keep off unwanted body weight. Also your body release higher amounts of human growth hormone than during the day to feed those muscles!

To get yourself to sleep, make sure you have a well established bed time routine lasting about an hour, this should be enough to signal to your body that it's time to start winding down. Make sure you don't eat too much and certainly stay away from caffine near bedtime.

You may consider something called casein proten before bed, it's a slow digesting protein to feed the muscles all night long. You can get this at a supplement shop, but I usually just get a glass of skim milk to do the trick. This is probably less protein than a powder type supplement but it's a good deal cheaper. Sleep well everyone!
